Canada Industrial Relations Board orders end to railways lockcouts and strikes

August 26, 2024

The Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) issued an order demanding an end to lockouts and strikes at Canadian National Railway Co., (CN) and Canadian Pacific Kansas City Ltd.,(CPKC). The order applies to both railways and to the Teamsters union.

Both CN and CPKC issued notices advisingf that they intend to follow the CIRB decision and resume operations.

The CIRB order hopefully ends the uncertainty and disruption for the Canadian economy and North American supply chains.

The railways anticipate it will take several weeks for the Canadian rail network to fully recover from the work stoppages.
