Results published by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the Total Cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers increased by 0.45% in July, as compared with June.
The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers, increased by 1.28% in June.
Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by Carriers increased slightly in July. Fuel was 24.58% of Base Rates in July versus 24.37% in June. Last year in July, the Average Fuel Surcharge was 23.80%.
"Total Freight Costs increased by 0.45% in July. Total Domestic LTL, Total Cross Border LTL, and Total Cross Border TL each increased in July while Total Domestic Truckload declined. Year over year, Total Domestic LTL, Total Cross Border LTL, and Total Cross Border TL segments are above last year while, Total Domestic Truckload remains below the costs for the same period last year," said Doug Payne, President of CGFI sponsor Nulogx.
