Statistics Canada reports that aircraft movements at Canada's major and select small airports totalled 592,193 in July, up 7.5% from July 2023.
The Federal Agency notes that itinerant movements increased 5.6% year over year to 419,341 in July 2024, while local movements rose 12.5% to 172,852.
In July, domestic movements increased 5.1% year over year to 361,923. For the second consecutive month, the overall growth in domestic movements was led by fire suppression activities at the Fort Nelson airport in British Columbia.
Transborder traffic (to and from the United States) rose 9.4% from one year earlier to 40,783 in July.
Year-over-year gains were also recorded in other international movements, up 7.4% to 16,635 in July. This level of activity is slightly lower than that recorded for this sector in July 2019, falling below pre-COVID-19-pandemic levels for the first time since September 2023.
