Cost of ground transportation for Canadian shippers increased in August

Results published by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the Total Cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers increased by 0.11% in August, as compared with July.

The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers, increased by 0.39% in August.

Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by Carriers increased in August. Fuel was 25.90% of Base Rates in August versus 24.58% in July. Last year in August, the Average Fuel Surcharge was 25.25%.

"Total Freight Costs increased by 0.11% in August. Total Domestic LTL and Total Domestic TL increased in August while Total Cross Border LTL, and Total Cross Border TL declined. Year over year, Total Domestic LTL, Total Cross Border LTL, and Total Cross Border TL segments are above last year while, Total Domestic Truckload remains below the costs for the same period last year," said Doug Payne, President of CGFI sponsor Nulogx.
