Results published by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the Total Cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers decreased by 1.15% in December from November costs.

The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers, decreased by 0.95% in December.

Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by Carriers decreased in December. Fuel was 23.53% of Base Rates in December versus 24.41% in November. Last year in December, the Average Fuel Surcharge was 26.78%.

"Total Freight Costs decreased 1.15% in December the 4th monthly decrease in a row. Total Domestic LTL and Total Transborder TL costs did increase but were out-weighed by the decreases in Total Domestic TL and Total Cross Border LTL. Year over year, Total Domestic LTL, Total Cross Border LTL, and Total Cross Border TL segments each remain above the same period last year, while Total Domestic Truckload costs remain below," said Doug Payne, President of CGFI sponsor Nulogx.
