Cost of ground transportation for Canadian shippers increased in January

Results published by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the total cost of ground transportation for Canadian shippers increased by 1.31% in January from December costs.

The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers, increased by 0.68% in January.

Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by Carriers increased in January. Fuel was 24.15% of Base Rates in January versus 23.53% in December. Last year in January, the Average Fuel Surcharge was 25.54%.

"Total Freight Costs increased 1.31% in January. All segments increased in January. Year over year, Total Domestic LTL, Total Cross Border LTL, and Total Cross Border TL segments all remain above the same period last year costs, while Total Domestic Truckload is still below," said Doug Payne, President of CGFI sponsor Nulogx.
