Cost of ground transportation for Canadian shippers increased again in February

Results published by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the Total Cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers increased by 2.51% in February from January costs.

The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers, increased by 1.66% in February.

Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by Carriers increased in February. Fuel was 24.70% of Base Rates in February versus 24.15% in January. Last year in February, the Average Fuel Surcharge was 25.85%.

"Total Freight Costs increased 2.51% in February. All segments increased in February. Year over year, Total Domestic LTL, Total Cross Border LTL, and Total Cross Border TL segments all remain above the same period last year costs, while Total Domestic Truckload is marginally below," said Doug Payne, President of CGFI sponsor Nulogx.
