Canadian shippers ground transportation cost decreased in May

Results published by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the Total Cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers decreased by 1.72% in May from April costs.

The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers, decreased by 1.25% in May.

Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by Carriers also decreased in May. Fuel was 23.63% of Base Rates in May versus 24.50% in April. Last year in May, the Average Fuel Surcharge was 24.16%.

"Total Freight Costs decreased 1.72% in May. Domestic Truckload increased in May while all other segments decreased. Year over year, Total Domestic LTL, Total Domestic TL, and Total Cross Border TL segments remain above costs from the same period last year, while Cross Border LTL continues to remain below last year's costs," said Doug Payne, President of CGFI sponsor Nulogx.
