Canadian shippers ground transportation costs continue to slide in July

Results published by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the Total Cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers decreased by 0.64% in July from June costs.

The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers, decreased by 0.32% in July.

Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by Carriers increased in July. Fuel was 24.28% of Base Rates in July versus 22.76% in June. Last year in July, the Average Fuel Surcharge was 24.58%.

"Total Freight Costs decreased 0.64% in July. Domestic Truckload increased again in July, while all other segments decreased. Year over year, Total Domestic LTL and Total Domestic TL segments remain above costs from the same period last year, while Cross Border LTL and Cross Border TL continue to be below last year's costs," said Doug Payne, President of CGFI sponsor Nulogx.
