Canadian shippers ground transportation costs dropped a little more in September

Results published by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the Total Cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers decreased by 0.46% in September from August costs.

The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers, decreased by 0.38% in September.

Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by Carriers decreased in September. Fuel was 23.71% of Base Rates in September versus 25.20% in August. Last year in September, the Average Fuel Surcharge was 23.71%.

"Total Freight Costs decreased 0.46% in September. Domestic Truckload increased in September while all other segments decreased. Year over year, Total Domestic LTL and Total Domestic TL segments are above the same period of last year's costs, while Cross Border LTL and Cross Border TL continue to be below last year's costs," said Doug Payne, President of CGFI sponsor Nulogx.
