Results published by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the total cost of ground transportation for Canadian shippers decreased by 0.74% in November from October costs.
The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of accessorial charges assessed by carriers, decreased by 1.25% in November.
Average fuel surcharges assessed by carriers increased in November. Fuel was 25.68% of base rates in November versus 23.70% in October. Last year in November, the average fuel surcharge was 24.41%.
"Total freight costs increased 0.74% in November. Domestic LTL and cross-border LTL increased in November, while domestic and cross-border truckload segments decreased. Year over year, total domestic LTL and total domestic TL segments remain above the same period last year costs, while cross-border LTL and cross-border TL continue to be below last year costs," said Doug Payne, President of CGFI sponsor Nulogx.
