Valenciaport's first month of the year closed with 403,730 containers processed, 3.93% less than in January of the previous year.
The 7.77% increase in container import traffic in January was not enough to offset the 8.61% decrease in export TEUs during the first month of the year.
A similar trend was observed for non-containerized goods: the increase in liquid bulk traffic (+17.23%) was not enough to offset the declines recorded for steel products (-29.59%), fertilizers (-41.40%), and vehicles and spare parts (-4.41%). Ultimately, between January 1st and 31st, 5.77 million tons passed through the docks of the Port of Valencia, 7.84% less than in January 2025.
Figures provided by the Valencia Port Authority Bulletin indicate similar imbalances in international traffic observed by various countries.
Among Valenciaport's four main partners (China, Italy, the United States, and Turkey), exports to the Asian giant fell by 2.11% in January, while imports increased by 17.55%.
Regarding Italy, maritime traffic declined in both directions: exports fell by 26.47% and imports by 7.74%. Sales to the United States decreased by 26%, while imports surged by 76%. As for Turkey, exports to that country increased by 61%, while imports fell by 15%. The number of ships operating in the docks and terminals of the port of Valencia in January (592 vessels) was 6.47% higher than the previous year.
