Results published by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the Total Cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers increased by 1.58% in January from December costs.
The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers, increased by 0.89% in January.
Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by Carriers increased in January. Fuel was 24.61% of Base Rates in January versus 24.69% in December. Last year in January, the Average Fuel Surcharge was 24.15%.
"Total Freight Costs increased 1.58% in January. Domestic Truckload, Domestic LTL and Cross Border Truckload increased in January while Cross Border LTL decreased. Year over year, Total Domestic LTL and Total Domestic TL segments remain above the same period last year costs, while Cross Border LTL and Cross Border TL continue to be below last year costs," said Doug Payne, President of CGFI sponsor Nulogx.
