Canadian shippers ground transportation costs were up slightly in February

Results published by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the Total Cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers increased by 0.09% in February from January costs.

The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers, decreased by 0.48% in February.

Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by Carriers increased in February. Fuel was 25.42% of Base Rates in February versus 24.61% in January. Last year in February, the Average Fuel Surcharge was 24.70%.

"Total Freight Costs increased 0.09% in February. Domestic LTL, Cross Border Truckload, and Cross Border LTL increased in February, while Domestic Truckload decreased. Year over year, Total Domestic LTL and Total Domestic TL segments remain above the same period last year costs, while Cross Border LTL and Cross Border TL continue to be below last year costs," said Doug Payne, President of CGFI sponsor Nulogx.
