Results published by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the total cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers decreased by 0.33% in April from March costs.
The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers, decreased by 0.57% in April.
Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by Carriers increased in April. Fuel was 29.50% of Base Rates in April versus 28.69% in March. Last year in April, the Average Fuel Surcharge was 24.50%.
"Total Freight Costs decreased 0.33% in April. Domestic LTL, Cross Border Truckload and Cross Border LTL increased in April while Domestic Truckload decreased. Year over year, Total Domestic LTL and Total Domestic TL segments remain above the same period last year of year costs, while Cross Border LTL and Cross Border TL continue to be below last year costs," said Doug Payne, President of CGFI sponsor Nulogx.
