Statistics Canada reports that Canadian Level I air carriers flew 7.3 million passengers on scheduled and charter services in May, 2.4% more than in May 2025.
The number of passenger-kilometres rose 3.8% year over year to 20.5 billion in May 2026, while capacity increased 2.6% to 24.3 billion available seat-kilometres. The passenger load factor (the ratio of passenger-kilometres to available seat-kilometres) was 84.3% in May, up from 83.3% observed in May 2025.
Each passenger travelled an average of 2,798 kilometres in May 2026, up 1.4% from the same month a year earlier.
Level I carriers flew 187,000 hours (+1.1%) in May and generated $2.8 billion (+12.6%) in total operating revenue.
