Results published by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the Total Cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers increased by 0.56% in May from April costs.

The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers, decreased by 0.89% in May.

Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by Carriers increased in May. Fuel was 33.72% of Base Rates in May versus 29.50% in April. Last year in May, the Average Fuel Surcharge was 23.63%.

"Total Freight Costs increased 0.56% in May. Domestic LTL, Cross Border LTL, and Cross Border Truckload increased in May while Domestic Truckload decreased. Year over year, Total Domestic LTL and Total Cross Border Truckload segments are above last year costs, while Domestic Truckload and Cross Border LTL continue to be below last year costs," said Doug Payne, President of CGFI sponsor Nulogx.
