According to the Association of American Railroads (AAR), Canadian railways reported 93,490 carloads for the week ending August 29, 2026, up 3.2 percent, and 77,356 intermodal units, up 7.7 percent compared with the same week in 2025.
For the first 34 weeks of 2026, Canadian railways reported cumulative rail traffic volume of 5,592,195 carloads, containers and trailers, up 1.3 percent.
North American rail volume for the week ending August 29, 2026, on 9 reporting U.S., Canadian and Mexican railways totaled 346,191 carloads, up 1.7 percent compared with the same week last year, and 395,417 intermodal units, up 6.0 percent compared with last year.
Total combined weekly rail traffic in North America was 741,608 carloads and intermodal units, up 3.9 percent. North American rail volume for the first 34 weeks of 2026 was 23,812,940 carloads and intermodal units, up 3.0 percent compared with 2025.
